December 2024

Dear Sponsors, Donors and Friends,

As Christmas approaches, we hope this letter finds you well.  This year’s education program is supporting 46 students:  18 high school girls, 11 high school boys and 17 university students, who will complete the school year in July.  If you’re sponsoring a student, their photo and the  letter they’ve written to you are enclosed.

Speaking of letters, we know that translating can be a challenge.  We’re sorry we can’t provide that service for you, but, if you’re not already doing so, we’d recommend using Google Translator.

In this Newsletter, we’ve included a student letter.  If you’re a donor who doesn’t support a specific student, the following letter will give you a snapshot of the life of one of the young people.

Dear Sponsor,

First of all, I hope that this letter finds you and your loved ones in good health.  I’m happy to write this letter and to share a little bit of my life with you.

My name is Ana Yeli, I’m 20 years old, and I’m studying at the University of Benito Juarez Garcia in the city of Ocosingo.  I’m in my fifth semester of a Nursing Program, and I hope to get my licensure in Obstetrics.  My grade average is 9.0 (out of 10).  This semester, I got to work in a health center.  It was a great learning experience for me, and I gained new knowledge in my field.

My father Pedro is a farmer, and my mother Obdulia is a homemaker.  I have 2 brothers and 4 sisters. We live in the community of Nuevo Paraíso (New Paradise).  Our community is surrounded by the natural environment where there is a great variety of trees, plants and some animals that are in danger of extinction.  We are Catholic, and we follow the customs and traditions of our faith, like The Festival of our Lady of Guadalupe, Holy Week and Easter, The New Year and The Day of the Dead.

My parents are very proud of me for the career I have chosen to study.  They are grateful for the help you have given me, and I hope that you can continue to support me during my studies as my family has very few economic resources.

Your Goddaughter,

Ana Yeli

Students like Ana Yeli inspire us to continue our efforts to support them.  Attaining an education improves not only their lives and the lives of their families, it empowers them to become agents of change in their communities.  Thank you, as always, for your continuing support.  We are grateful for your generosity, and we wish you a blessed Christmas and a healthy and happy New Year.
