Ways to Help

You Can Help Give Mayan Youth A Future

Remember MTF in Your Plans

Please consider making Mission Teaching Foundation the beneficiary of your IRA. Because of our non-profit status, MTF is able to receive your IRA tax-free. If money is given to individual recipients it is taxed. Also, please consider making MTF one of the beneficiaries of your will or trust. Along with your children, grandchildren, friends, parish, and other charities, please remember the children of Chiapas and include MTF. Estate planning is a great way to contribute more money at a time when it is difficult to give a lot.

Donate to the Girls Dorm

The MTF’s “Winter 2022 Gift Matching Campaign” has officially ended.  Thanks to your generosity the target matching amount of $4,000 has been reached and exceeded. We’ve raised $8,096, so with Global Legacy Programs’ $4,000 match, we’ve raised a grand total of $12,096.

Sponsor a Student

There are a variety of ways in which Mission Teaching Foundation (MTF) is partnering with Yashalúm de Santiago Apóstle, a self-help civil association, to help the Mayan indigenous people of Chiapas work towards a better future. The main focus is on the sponsorship programs, which are currently giving monthly scholarships to over 250 junior high, high school, and college students. Their youth is eager to learn, so much so that not all applications for scholarships can be supported.

Your help will give another young Mayan a chance for a better future. To become a sponsor download the Pledge Form below.

There are two Student Sponsorship programs available for your consideration:

  1. High School Student at $ 25.00 per month,
    or $ 300.00 for a full year.
  2. College Student at $ 100.00 per month,
    or $ 1,200.00 for a full year.

Your Donations Make a Difference!

Yashalum has been supporting the work of the Mayan midwives over the past several years. The first impetus for the project came through Global Pediatric Alliance in Oakland, CA. Their representative in Chiapas, Alejandra Alvarez, has been working closely with Yashalum to contact the midwives in the area to give them a sense of appreciation for their vital role in the communities, offer workshops for improving techniques and establish relationships with the medical professionals in the region. Yashalum sees the program as a significant way to lower the high infant mortality rate and offer pregnant women dignified care while respecting the dictates of the Mayan culture.

The Enhanced Stove project is yet another way in which MTF is helping the indigenous of Chiapas. Not only do these solid, concrete stoves provide better health conditions for families through smoke-free kitchens, but also help in the conservation of surrounding forests through the efficient way in which wood is burned.
